Rosenthal makes furniture
Folio
Folio is an exciting and representative range of chairs. They derive their appeal on the one hand from the contrast between the heaviness of the angular cube and the curving cushion elements – and on the other from the visual and functional lightness that arises from the four castor-mounted legs of chromiumplated tubular steel.
Folio follows disciplined architectonic forms, but never appears
static. The characteristic, elegantly restrained design in combination
with clear functionality and seating comfort fulfils all the
requirements a versatile chair must meet. The well-proportioned design
of the cushions is part of the style language of the architecture of
Folio – and has given the chair its name: "… a cushion spread over the
chair like a leaf". The corpus is finished in satin matt varnish,
either in the same colour as the cushion cover or in contrasting shades. The seat and back cushions and the arm rest are
representatively covered in haptically pleasing leather. Based on the
chair architecture, the concept is also developed with the same formal
logic into an easy chair – either as a one- or two-seater, supplemented
by an occasional table.
With Folio, the
Italian designer Cini Boeri has created a high-quality item of chair furniture, which makes no compromises and is therefore
ideally combinable with other Rosenthal furniture – e.g. with the other
programmes designed by Cini Boeri: Prisma, Ypsilon or me.
A chair is also a rest for the eye. The contrasts of the structure – a
voluminous corpus in satin matt finish placed on four slender,
chromium-plated legs – give the chair its individual excitement. The
character of the various surfaces is an uncompromising expression of
reduced design. Building on this distinctive clarity, the combination
of precise workmanship and finely finished surfaces creates a grace
that gives the item its characteristic nobility. And another typical
feature: without any hint of arbitrariness, the severe straight lines
of the structure are broken where the user has contact with the chair –
with the comfortable leather cushion elements laid attractively over
the corpus. The dimensions and proportions of this chair leave room for
freedom of movement. This mobility of sitting is accompanied, thanks to
the castors, by mobility within the room. A chair with a distinction of
its own – comfortable and practical.
